Just Hangin’ Out (Thursday, September 30)

Written by DJ Enki on September 22, 2010 – 6:36 am -

I like to hang out and hustle with my friends

Come September 30, I get to do something I really love doing: Spin 1990s hip-hop. E Da Boss and I are taking it to the Layover in Oakland: Strictly vinyl, and digging a little deeper than the standard Golden Era set you’ve heard a million times. We’re definitely pulling out some joints for this one. And the best part is that it’s free! Don’t sleep!

Thursday, September 30

The Layover (1517 Franklin St. Oakland)
10pm-2am
Just Hangin’ Out: E Da Boss and DJ Enki spin 1990s hip-hop wax
FREE!

The 45 Session (Saturday, September 18)

The 45 Session--it's on and poppin'

Once again it’s on!

I’m not kidding when I say this is my favorite ongoing party: The 45 Sessions that happen every third Saturday at the Layover in Oakland. It just reminds me of what’s fun about DJing: Anything goes as far as selection is concerned (as long as it’s on a 45, of course), and the crowd at this cool little spot is totally down to boogie to whatever you throw at ‘em. Funk, disco, rock, breaks, classic, unknown, whatever–if it’s good, it’s good. Plus, in this Serato age, it really is nice to put all the bells and whistles aside and just spin real records. (And of course there’s the show-and-prove aspect: If you don’t have a good collection and good skills, you can’t hang.) I know I’m pulling out some special gems for this outing, and I’m betting the homie Platurn is as well. It’s gonna be just Platurn and me rocking the decks all night long, so you know you need to bust out your dancing shoes and get ready for some quality DJing! Here is the Facebook event page with all the details, but for those who would rather not deal with the evil that is Facebook, here’s the rundown:

Saturday, September 18

The Layover (1517 Franklin St. Oakland)
10pm-2am
The 45 Session: DJ Platurn and DJ Enki spin funk, disco, hip-hop, rock, breaks, boogie, and all sorts of great tunes on nothing but 45s

The best damn New Year’s Eve party in the Bay!

Written by DJ Enki on December 15, 2009 – 9:16 pm -

So check this out: Come New Year’s Eve, instead of my usual schtick of staying home and avoiding the craziness, I’ve got something much more fun planned: Opening up for the godfather himself, Afrika Bambaataa, at Club 6! Oh, it’s going down like that! This party is no joke–all three rooms at the club are gonna be crackin’. Besides Bam, you’ve also got Zion I in the house, Radioactive, K-Flay, Distortion 2 Static, and all sorts of heavy hitters. This is serious business right here, and if you’re in the Bay for NYE, you really need to be at this party. You can catch all the details and buy tickets right here at this Going.com page.

I’m back up in some Goldsweat Dec. 12

Written by DJ Enki on December 8, 2009 – 3:17 am -

Once again it’s on! The homie Konnect from Goldsweat got at me again to come rock that tremendous party he and his crew put on. I had a freakin’ blast at this joint the last time I played it and have been chomping at the bit to get to rock it again. Well, that time has finally come, so you know I’m gonna throw down hard on this one. I’ve got the disco, I’ve got the Miami bass, I’ve got the electro, and I’ve got some serious OG Baltimore club to drop on y’all. If you’re in the Bay this weekend, you do not wanna miss out on this–it is big things for sure. (For those curious, I’m doing the midnight-1am slot.) Here’s the Facebook event page, and here’s the rundown
