The 45 Sessions with DJ Doc Fu

If you’ve been sleeping on the best party in the East Bay, it’s time to wake up. What we have here is big things: The homie DJ Doc Fu coming through to bless us with a set. Doc’s a San Francisco legend — an institution, even. He’s been slaying crowds for years with his killer record crates and top-notch skills. We’re excited he’s finally able to come bless the 45 Sessions with a set, and you should be, too, because much like Poor Righteous Teachers, he’s gonna rock this funky joint.

Track the Movement (Sat. Nov. 5)

Written by DJ Enki on November 2, 2011 – 4:03 am -

Don't lose it!

Hey, you guys remember rap records, don’t you? Hip-hop DJs used to spin them before Serato took over the game.

Jerry Nice remembers rap records, so he started this dope party called Track the Movement that gave us DJs who still keep shelves full of dope rap wax a place to spin those records. I did this party last year and had a real good time revisiting my collection–I have some records I had forgotten about!–and now it’s time for me to invade again and get busy with it. If you love that good ol’ rap music, then this is definitely the party for you. Better yet, it’s free, and there are plenty of drink specials, so come kick it and get down to some great tunes.

Saturday, November 5

The Showdown (6th & Market, SF)
Jerry Nice and DJ Enki spin top-quality rap strictly off wax. No computers allowed!
No cover!

“Mythical Raer” funk 45 mix by Forty-Fivan

Written by DJ Enki on September 1, 2011 – 4:20 am -

So my dude Forty-Fivan just released his latest mix, and this thing is fantastic. His record collection is no joke, and while he’s been going heavy on the Brazilian and psych tip of late, don’t get it twisted: He’s a heavyweight with the funk. I mean, OG Scorpio and his People 45? Daaaaaaamn! So anyway, you should head over to his website and listen to the mix and check the tracklist. You will be happy you did.

New release: Twilight “Love’s High (DJ Enki remix)”

Written by DJ Enki on January 13, 2011 – 3:31 am -

Coming through with beats for which I've been searching!

When Groove Merchant’s Vinnie Esparza sold me the limited-edition re-issue of the Twilight album, he did so on one condition: That I remix the last song, a pretty little synth-and-vocal vamp called “Love’s High.” He was joking about that condition, but I decided to do the remix anyway. Vinnie dug it and passed it along to Ubiquity records, which handled the re-issue, and they loved it. The loved it so much, in fact, that they wanted to include it on a special remix single they had planned in which they’d put three songs from Ubiquity’s recent catalog on one side of a record and a remix of each of those songs on the flip. Well, that vinyl is finally out, so you can get the DJ Enki edit of “Love’s High” for your own record collection. You can buy both the vinyl and the MP3s directly from Ubiquity. Check it out!

Just Hangin’ Out (Thursday, September 30)

Written by DJ Enki on September 22, 2010 – 6:36 am -

I like to hang out and hustle with my friends

Come September 30, I get to do something I really love doing: Spin 1990s hip-hop. E Da Boss and I are taking it to the Layover in Oakland: Strictly vinyl, and digging a little deeper than the standard Golden Era set you’ve heard a million times. We’re definitely pulling out some joints for this one. And the best part is that it’s free! Don’t sleep!
